The Canon PowerShot G12 is still a pocket camera (barely) and has an
optical viewfinder. The G series has always been the highest quality
pocket camera on the market. They're not cheap but they're really
good cameras.

I went in a different direction. I have an Olympus PEN micro 4:3
format camera body, removable electronic viewfinder, and a set of
lenses. Broken down into the three components, it fits in a couple of
coat pockets. I usually have an (equivalent) 28mm-300mm zoom on
it. It does really well with skiing video clips and stills.
