More like 2 miles from the top of the summit lift at Solitude to the
Albion Basin day lodge. Basically, Solitude is across the street and
"behind" Grizzly Gulch and Fantasy Ridge (aka Honeycomb ridge).

>goldminer's daughter sounds good-

GMD is perhaps the cheapest (possibly Snowpine Lodge as well) but the
best food is at Alta Lodge, The Rustler and the Peruvian - exact
order open to debate.

That let's out Alta, but there is a free shuttle that runs between
the Alta lodges and Snowbird.

Solitude gives up it's secrets far less easily than Alta and
Snowbird, so casual one or two day visitors rarely see all the goods.

No.

Yes there is - through the Fantasy gate and across the Highway to
Heaven traverse then down one of the Grizzly Gulch lines or over and
up Patsy Marley and down its west face or one of the multitude of
lines from the ridge that culminates at Superior.

>google earth shows its right off the back.

Pretty much - see my comments above.

>is this avi terrain, off-limits, or just a really bad idea?

Yes. No. Yes if your avi and b/c skills suck.
