I think it's tough to compare average ski levels because the ski
level varies so greatly between resorts (good skiers ski at tough
resorts). Having said that, I didn't find a bunch of super-skiers
over in France. Most of France lives pretty far away from the ski
resorts, so they only get out for a week or two each year. Weekend
skiing is not well developed. Part of this is due to the fact that
French kids go to school on Saturday morning, how uncivilized is
that? (Apparently this is starting to change a little.)

Beyond location, Euro attitudes toward skiing are different. Instead
of a "me vs. the mountain" extreme experience, it's more social.

Les Gets is a pretty small area and is certainly not known for
extreme skiing but I will acknowledge that I've never been there.
