Whether that is true for Black Falls Bowl depends on your definition of a
"road". Topo maps and the Landsat image from Google Maps show that there is a
logging road that ends just over 1 mile from the summit of Jay Peak. This road
is not plowed, but it leads to houses and plowed road in 3 miles. It is
probably used by snowmobiles, and thus would be relatively easy to walk or ski
down.
Recall those guys who spent a sub-0 degrees night in Black Falls Bowl at
Christmas several years ago were found around a campfire that was within a few
hundred feet of this logging road. I think the newspaper story suggested these
guys were within view of the logging road. Was this the incident where the guys
burned their money to keep the fire going?
I'm not sure there is anywhere in VT that is not within 2-3 miles of a road of
some sort. There are logging roads and various other old roads just about
everywhere.
