Forgot to post this but Stowe yesterday was pretty freakin' good as far as
spring skiing goes. Temperatures remained around freezing up top but was
well into the 40's in the sun at the bottom. Strong sunshine from 11am on
brought a great few hours around lunchtime that featured soft, hero snow
on a firm base on sunny trails...with a thin 1/2" layer of soft stuff that
would nearly peel away on a lot of the glade trails. Did a run in the
Pipeline region between Goat and Nosedive (area doesn't see any sun during
the day) and it was frozen but edgeable...but also a far cry from lower
elevation woods that required constant hop turns to even think about
turning your skis from one side to another.

Overall, a few people were getting into the parking-lot-party
mentality...but there's still a couple months left of skiing on Mansfield
(lift and/or human powered skiing). Base depths are deep up high, south
facing, lower elevation slopes are running thin, but when are they not?
C'mon folks, we've got a long way to go!

Wierdest part of the day was when a helicopter started flying around the
Chin, through the Notch, down RT 108, etc. Not sure what he was up to but
he got pretty close to the mountain at times.

Find the helicopter approaching from the northeast...

Went around the Chin and did a close fly over of of the ridge.

Then inbetween me and the Chin.

Looked almost like a military helicopter but couldn't see any markings on
him.

Some senic photos:

Line I took through the Upper Goatdive woods...still solid in the shade
but quite enjoyable in the sunny spots.

C'mon everyone, get out there and ski. Snowfall begins again mid week
with occasional chances for the next two weeks.
