There are lots of lodging options in both BCC and LCC, however they will
definitely be more expensive than staying in SLC, but it could very well
be worth the cost for the feel of being in the mountains and knowing you
don't have to go far to hit the slopes.
In LCC the Alta Lodge, Peruvian Lodge, Rustler Lodge and Gold Miner's
Daughter are all ski-out accomodations and are low-key skier's lodges (not
fancy). More extravagant is the Cliff Lodge. The skiing is far better in
LCC than BCC as far as depth of snow, amount of terrain and quality of
terrain. Solitude is nice to get away from the crowd for a day or 2, but
is not exciting enough to warrant staying there, unless your going with
your family (or snowboarders) and want a friendly, comfortable and
uncrowded environment on which to roam. I think BCC is more snowboard-
friendly.
To get from LCC to BCC will take an hour. But to get to either canyon from
SLC takes about 30 minutes. If it is dumping it could take longer and it
could mean a late start if the road is closed. This only happenes once in
a while. Usually if the road to LCC is closed, the road to BCC is open.
THe shop to get your discounted lift tix is right at the intersection
where you make the choice to go to either canyon.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think you'll end up spending twice
as much to stay in the canyons, however, cost may not be an issue for you,
and if that is the case, if I had the choice, I'd stay at the Goldminer's
Daughter. If money was not at all an option I'd likely stay at the Cliff
Lodge.
