A storybook ending, it was not to be. Leading after the first run of
the final race of his career, and thus the last contender to start the
second run, Jimmy hooked a tip, ending his shot at a 5th national
championship.

During his best seasons, results-wise, Jimmy was one of the top-20
slalom skiers in the world, but on any given run, as evidenced by his
second run in his second world championship slalom, he could ski as
fast as anyone on the planet.

He's also about as generous, kind, and humble a person as I've ever
met. Everytime I run into him at the ski area, he cracks a huge smile.
You'd never guess his intense competitive fire.

I'll miss watching Jimmy with bated breath race the great slalom hills
of the world. Thanks for the memories!
