Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
322 AM EDT Fri May 26 2023

.SYNOPSIS...
A warming trend continues today into the upcoming holiday
weekend as high pressure at all levels builds across the region.
Highs will be well into the 60s today, 70s on Saturday, and
upper 70s to mid 80s by Sunday with cool and comfortable
overnight lows. The next potential for precipitation is not
until late next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 252 AM EDT Friday...Frost advisory continues until 8 AM
this morning for patchy frost formation. Crntly obs indicate
temps in the advisory are ranging from the upper 20s to mid 30s,
except near 40F acrs the SLV. In addition, GOES 16 fog product
and sfc obs/web cams indicates some patchy fog has developed
acrs the CT River Valley, parts of the NEK and deeper valleys of
the dacks, so have included in fcst thru early this morning.
Otherwise, plenty of sunshine anticipated today with progged
925mb temps 10 to 12C, should support highs mid 60s to lower
70s. Have trended toward the warmer side of guidance, given
potential for good mixing with plenty of sunshine. Expect some
fair wx cumulus to develop during peak heating, especially acrs
the trrn. Tonight, temps wl be 4 to 8 degrees warmer, given the
llvl thermal profiles with values ranging from 35F to 50F acrs
the region. Some very light and limited patchy frost is possible
at SLK and parts of the NEK. Given the limited areal coverage,
not anticipating the need for another frost advisory attm. For
Saturday, very little change anticipated, except for temps
warming another 4 to 8 degrees. Highs on Saturday wl be in the
mid 70s to lower 80s most locations with plenty of sunshine. Did
trend dwpts toward the 10th percentile NBM, which results in
critically low rh values, but winds are light and trrn driven
under 10 mph, so any fire concerns are minimal attm.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 318 AM EDT Friday...A beautiful holiday weekend is in store for
the region as high pressure settles overhead. Clear skies and ample
sunshine will be the general trend, with the exception of some
increased clouds Sunday night into Monday associated with a weak
backdoor cold front. As the previous forecaster mentioned, no
precipitation is expected with this frontal passage, just some
additional clouds and a small drop in temperatures. Temperatures on
Sunday will be in the low/mid 80s, while Monday will feature highs
in the high 70s to low 80s. Overnight lows will be very seasonable,
upper 40s to mid 50s, providing the region a much welcomed break
from frost concerns.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 318 AM EDT Friday...As high pressure stays rooted overhead, dry
and warm weather can be expected for the majority of next week.
Highs will continue to warm up through the week, generally in the
80s with some valley locations nearing 90 by Thursday. Outside of
these above normal temperatures, a dry and quiet week is in store
for the region. Some guidance is suggesting a possible shortwave
bringing showers towards the end of the week, however given the lack
of forcing, the drier scenario seems more likely. Overall, a
beautiful stretch of weather across the region is expected the
next few days.

&&

.AVIATION /07Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Through 00Z Saturday...VFR conditions prevail at all sites with
light trrn driven winds under 5 knots. Have noted some
increasing low level moisture acrs the St Lawrence Valley this
morning, which could result in shallow fog/br near KMSS toward
sunrise. Confidence is not high enough to go IFR but placed BCFG
SCT001 to cover the potential. Also, SLK has dropped below their
cross-over value and feel given sharp/shallow inversion
developing some fog/br is possible around sunrise with slightly
better potential for IFR. Wl use tempo to cover this, otherwise
VFR next 12 to 24 hours with northwest winds 4 to 8 knots today.

Outlook...

Friday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Saturday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Saturday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Sunday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Sunday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Memorial Day: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Monday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Tuesday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
