Jimme-
I used a teather with my son when he was 5 and now he's out of it, skiing
intermediate runs constantly and consistently.  Actually did his first black
diamond two weeks ago (if you really want to call it that...it was a mini
drop at Berkshire East)  I did the lesson thing for two reasons: To get the
idea of moving with skis and boots on and to selfishly get some turns in
myself.  Actually, he seems to be bummed out by lessons, and seems to be
more daring (but on the safe side) with me.  Try the teather, its quite a
workout on the adult controlling the speed of the child, but it appeared to
work well with my son.  I will be starting my daughter next year when she's
3 with lessons.  Can't wait for the day when they have to wait up for me!
