Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
413 AM EDT Wed May 16 2018

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will provide pleasant weather conditions through
Friday. Morning valley fog will dissipate quickly after sunrise.
Temperatures this afternoon will reach the low to mid 70s under
mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be slightly cooler on
Thursday and Friday - with highs mainly in the 60s - as a dry
cold front crosses the region from north to south. Rain is
expected to develop Saturday and Saturday night as low pressure
lifts northeastward from the Ohio Valley into New York and New
England.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 331 AM EDT Wednesday...Dealing with some patchy fog this
morning following yesterday's rainfall (0.61" at BTV) and
combination of wet ground/light winds/mostly clear skies. In
general though, looking at a quiet stretch of weather with sfc
anticyclone across Quebec our controlling weather feature. Will
see the high translate into the Canadian Maritimes this
afternoon, allowing for south winds to develop at 10-15 mph. Low
humidity will persist with 2-M dewpoints remaining low (upr 30s
to lower 40s). Mostly sunny conditions and 850mb temps
moderating to +8 to +10C should allow afternoon temperatures to
reach low-mid 70s for highs, except upr 60s Adirondacks and
Northeast Kingdom.

Clear to partly cloudy skies again tonight as a dry cold front
sags swd to near the Intl Border by 12Z Thursday. May see winds
abate enough to again allow for patchy fog development in the
favored river valleys, especially east of the Greens. We'll be
another 24 hrs removed from our last precip event, so anticipate
the fog being a bit more limited in coverage. Wednesday night lows
will range from the mid 40s to 53F at BTV/MSS.

Will see a period of partly to mostly cloudy conditions Thursday
morning as dry cold front passes sewd across the North Country.
Northerly wind shift is expected, and low-level CAA will keep
daytime highs mainly in the 60s on Thursday...except lower 70s
for the lower valleys of Rutland and Windsor counties.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 412 AM EDT Wednesday...High pressure remains over the area
for Thursday night into Friday as the dry weather continues.
Northerly winds will keep temperatures slightly below seasonal
normals with lows in the lower 30s to mid 40s and highs in the
60s.

&&

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 412 AM EDT Wednesday...Long term will see high pressure move
off as a surface low over the Ohio Valley brings a warm front
into the region late morning on Saturday. Models have continued
the trend of slowing the system and now keep most of the deeper
moisture to the south of the CWA, but even with that, periods of
rain showers are expected across most of the area Saturday
afternoon and into Sunday. Plenty of cloud cover and
precipitation will result in daytime temperatures slightly below
normal temperatures for the weekend. The system moves out of
the area Sunday night into Monday leading to a return toward
drier weather and seasonal temperatures next week.

&&

.AVIATION /08Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Through 00Z Thursday...Mainly VFR/SKC except for FG thru 12Z at
RUT/MPV/SLK. Fog will dissipate leaving mostly clear conditions
thru the remainder of the TAF period. Winds becoming S-SE at
5-10kts this morning, and 10-14kts for the afternoon hrs.
Precipitation is not expected.

Outlook...

Thursday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Thursday Night: VFR. Patchy BR.
Friday: VFR. Patchy BR.
Friday Night: VFR. Slight chance SHRA.
Saturday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Chance SHRA.
Saturday Night: Mainly MVFR, with local IFR possible. Chance
SHRA.
Sunday: MVFR/IFR conditions possible. Chance SHRA.
