The key word there is obvious. There's more than you think.

There are a number of ways to milk that traverse for a lot more vert.

In some senses I agree. Certainly the best of Honeycomb Canyon
involves some significant slogging, and I certainly understand the
reluctance of most visitors on limited time to get involved with big
hikes. Where Solitude and Brighton have it all over Alta are the tree
shots and the unparalleled lift served side/back country access
(assuming the skills and gear).
The thing I like least about Solitude is the slow and quirky lift
arrangement. OTOH, a lot of people, including many locals, can't
stand the traversing that you need to do a Alta to get to certain
terrain. I've learned to love them, but I've been told I'm strange, too. ;-)
