Ski Movies
Anybody remember Snowball Express? I just saw it last night and there
were a few parts that had me in hysterics. It's a 70's Disney movie filmed
at Crested Butte. A guy and his family open up a ski area called "Silver
Hill". Only problem is they know absolutely nothing whatsoever about skiing.
There's one scene where the "ski instructor" (a goofy mechanic they
hired to do the job) is about to start his 1st group lesson. He's standing
there with his back turned to the group, reading a book called "How To Ski".
He puts the book in his pocket, turns around and says: "Ok class, the first
thing we're gonna learn is: 'STRAIGHTLINING', or, 'SCHUSSING' as they call
it."
The whole thing has that grainy 70's look to it, complete with those
high-tech, Disney special effects from way back when. It was interesting to
see those classic old skis and to notice how some ski companies (Like K2)
have reverted back to the graphics of yesteryear. If you get the chance,
watch it. It's very entertaining.
