Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
447 AM EDT Sat Aug 15 2020

.SYNOPSIS...
Dry and pleasant conditions with near seasonable temperatures will
prevail through the weekend as high pressure settles over the North
Country. The next chance for precipitation comes Sunday night
through Monday as a cold front pushes across the region. After the
frontal passage, cooler and mainly dry conditions are expected.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 430 AM EDT Saturday...Surface high pressure spreads across
our area today and tonight. Dry weather is expected with mostly
sunny skies. An upper level low will be anchored over Northern
Maine through early Sunday. This feature will help to push some
cloud cover into our area, though not really expecting any
showers aside from Sunday when parts of eastern Vermont could
have a brief light rain shower with moist air pushing in from
the east. High temperatures today will be very similar to
yesterday, about 5 degrees above seasonal normals. Will see
warmest temps in St Lawrence valley and coolest east of the
Greens. Another good radiational cooling night is anticipated
tonight and temperatures will drop off pretty sharply with some
possible BR development again. Will have increasing pops on
Sunday from the west as surface feature and upper level trough
approaches from the west. Will see an increasing in clouds
across the area on Sunday, but temperatures will still warm into
the upper 70s to lower 80s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 300 AM EDT Saturday...The progression of a longwave
trough and associated surface front into the Northeast will
highlight the early portions of next week. As the upper trough
initially digs to the north and west the highest concentration
of showers Sunday night should largely be confined to the
western half of the forecast area, especially northern NY. The
trough and front make steadier eastward progress by Monday with
shower threat blossoming area wide before tapering off west to
east Monday night. Precipitation from this event should
generally be on the light side with mean 30-hour model output
averaging in the 0.10 to 0.40 inch range which appears
reasonable at this point. Temperatures to run within 1-3 degrees
of seasonal late summer norms.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 300 AM EDT Saturday...Mainly quiet weather is then
expected for a majority of the long term. The base of
aforementioned longwave upper trough lingers through the Wed/Thu
time frame before gradually lifting out toward the end of next
week. A weak surface trough passage may spark a scattered shower
or two on Thursday but by and large dry weather is expected
through the period. Similar to the short term, temperatures
should average within 1-3 degrees of normals as daily highs top
out in the 70s to locally near 80 while overnight lows in
general range through the 50s to locally near 60 in the broad
valleys.

&&

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Through 06Z Sunday...Mainly VFR conditions overnight with
perhaps just some BR at MPV and SLK. Have used tempo to
highlight potential ifr conditions at mpv with mvfr at slk. Any
fog/br will lift by 12z with vfr and light north winds
prevailing today at 4 to 8 knots.

Outlook...

Sunday: VFR. Slight chance SHRA.
Sunday Night: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Chance SHRA.
Monday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Likely SHRA, Slight
chance TSRA.
Monday Night: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Chance SHRA.
Tuesday: Mainly VFR, with local IFR possible. Chance SHRA.
Tuesday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Wednesday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
