I'm afraid I misconstrued Jim's question! Late April, while it can be
good to great in the PNW, can also be seriously avalanche prone,
rainy/snowy generally nasty at altitude. Pick the right day and it's
skier heaven though.

I concur with Jonathan- for April the Sierra has more sun, great skiing,
and the avi hazard has usually fallen off in the backcountry. Prime
time for Sierra touring is usually May, petering out considerably by the
end of June. This is highly variable though- some years it keeps snowing
well into spring and the summer skiing is great.
