Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
412 AM EDT FRI JUN 3 2016
.SYNOPSIS...
A few lingering showers will affect southern and eastern Vermont
with a slight chance for a rumble of thunder this afternoon.
Saturday will be dry with plentiful sunshine and slightly cooler
temperatures. A large, slow moving storm system will mark a
pattern change for the North Country with widespread rain Sunday
into Monday. In the wake of that system, cooler and unsettled
weather will be in place through the middle of next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 353 AM EDT Friday...A few light rain showers will linger
across the Green Mountains and traverse eastward this morning.
Expect most of the area to remain dry, but some instability is
being depicted on the models along with mid afternoon low level
FGen. Therefore have included slight chance showers and tstorms
for mainly eastern and south central Vermont.
925mb temperatures ranging 17-20C with increasing sunshine
throughout the day will result in max temperatures in the lower to
mid 80s for most areas. Exception being far southeast areas where
there will be cloudier conditions. Southerly flow this morning
will shift to the west by the afternoon then northwest late in the
day.
Ridging will begin to affect the North Country this evening with
light to calm winds and generally clearing skies. 925mb
temperatures will decrease to 13-15C, resulting in surface min
temperatures generally in the 50s with portions of the Adirondacks
dipping into the upper 40s.
&&
.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 412 AM EDT Friday...A weak ridge of high pressure will
build southeast from Canada on Saturday and will remain over the
region through Saturday night, with fair and dry weather expected.
A warm front will approach the region late Saturday night and
early Sunday, with rain developing across the region on Sunday.
Precipitable water values become greater than 1.5 inches Sunday
afternoon, so have included a mention of rain heavy at times
Sunday afternoon and early Sunday night. Conditions look fairly
stable Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, so have not included any
mention of thunder in the forecast.
&&
.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 412 AM EDT Friday...An upper low and and an upper trough
over Canada and the Great Lakes will swing east toward the region
through the period with a chance of rain showers through most of
the period. Expecting temperatures to be near or slight below
normal through the period as well due to cloud cover and colder
air aloft being over the region.
&&
.AVIATION /08Z Friday THROUGH Tuesday/...
Through 06z Saturday...VFR conditions at all sites but KSLK which
is experience MVFR cigs. A few light showers may affect terminals,
with minimal effects. Generally light southerly winds persist into
the morning. A front will move eastward across the area, shifting
winds from south to west in the late morning/early afternoon hours
with decreasing clouds behind the front. Few showers possible
across eastern Vermont on Friday.
Heading into the evening, winds will become light to calm with
mostly clear conditions.
Outlook 00Z Saturday through Tuesday...
06z Saturday-12z Sunday...VFR. No sig wx.
12z Sunday-18z Monday...widespread MVFR and some IFR developing
with showers/periods of rain. May have some gusty surface winds
and/or LLWS.
18z Monday onward...mainly VFR, but possible MVFR with showers.
