The ground never froze this year, like it does most years.
Unfrozen ground doesn't repel water like it's frozen counterpart.
I think we are in for the worst mud season we have seen in a long time.
Unless we have a dry spring, it is going to be ugly.   Already it is
looking pretty bad.

I live on a dirt road, but it is a short road that connects to a paved
road.   In 88, when my wife was pregnant, we lived six miles from a 
paved road.   We had a bad mud season that year.  Ever since then, my wife
has had a thing against dirt roads.   She hates them.   She can barely 
tollerate them when they are frozen and flat.   We won't be taking 
any dirt roads any time soon.
