It sucks, but it's not 'xactly an accident. 

From the "Rescue Summary"

"Unstable snow and very radical terrain kept them from doing this safely
so the mission was aborted."

Is it an accident when somebody gets hit crossing the freeway on foot
without looking?

Mayhaps it's better refered to as an "Avi Incident".  But whatever you
call it, it's too bad the guy paid with his life.
