Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
354 AM EDT Sun Jul 29 2018

.SYNOPSIS...
Surface high pressure building into the region will provide
generally dry conditions to the North Country through much of
Tuesday outside of a few isolated showers across northern areas
today. Unsettled weather returns late Tuesday with showers and
thunderstorms threatening each remaining day of the work week,
especially Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 353 AM EDT Sunday...Overall trend for today through
Monday will be towards drier conditions as surface high pressure
currently over the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley looks to edge
eastward into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast States. Aloft we'll
still dominated by a broad longwave trough today with yet
another weak shortwave trough progged to skim along the
international border this morning through early afternoon.
Currently we're seeing a few isolated showers moving across far
northern New York associated with this feature, and while
conditions will be mainly dry for most areas today, especially
central and southern areas, locations along and near the
Canadian border will likely see isolated showers continue to
pop-up and quickly diminish through the early afternoon before
the trough shifts east of the area. Temps will be very seasonal
today topping out in the mid 70s to low 80s, and humidity will
be more comfortable as well compared to the past few days as
afternoon dewpoints fall into the 50s.

For tonight through Monday, mostly clear to partly cloudy skies are
expected with some locally dense fog possible again tonight in the
climo favored river valleys of Vermont. Lows will be very
comfortable ranging through the 50s, and temps Monday will be just
slightly above normal as increasing south/southwesterly flow will
bump 925mb temps up to around +20C supporting highs in the upper 70s
to mid 80s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 353 AM EDT Sunday...Upper ridging starts to break down
Monday night and southwest flow aloft becomes established on
Tuesday. However...deeper moisture within the southwest flow
aloft will take its time getting here and will be more focused
on northern New York later on Tuesday. As a result...have kept
Monday night dry and then increase precipitation chances across
northern New York as the day wears on. It also appears Vermont
will stay relatively dry through the period with just a slight
chance of showers or storms later Tuesday afternoon. High
temperatures on Tuesday will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 353 AM EDT Sunday...Precipitation chances increase over
the entire area Tuesday night and Wednesday as better forcing
occurs over the area from surface front and upper trough just to
our west. Showers will be likely with a slight chance for
thunderstorms. Southwest flow aloft remains in place for the
remainder of the period and will just be a matter of any extra
forcing from a shortwave trough for example to move through the
flow and enhance the precipitation potential. Otherwise with
plenty of moisture around can see a scenario of diurnally driven
convection...mainly showers but some thunderstorms...Thursday
through Saturday and essentially have a chance for this
throughout the period. High temperatures will through much of
the extended period will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s...with a
few mid 80s possible. Lows will generally be in the upper 50 to
upper 60s.

&&

.AVIATION /08Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Through 06Z Monday...Mainly VFR conditions are expected through
the period. Exceptions will be VLIFR fog at MPV, and briefly at
KBTV, along with MVFR cigs at KSLK through about 12Z.
Thereafter, fog burns off with VFR cigs area-wide through the
remainder of the day and into Sunday night. Light to calm winds
overnight trend WNW at 5-10 knots during the daylight hours.

Outlook...

Sunday Night: VFR. Patchy BR.
Monday: VFR. Patchy BR.
Monday Night: VFR. Slight chance SHRA, Patchy BR.
Tuesday: VFR. Chance SHRA, Chance TSRA, Patchy BR.
Tuesday Night: VFR. Chance SHRA, Chance TSRA.
Wednesday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Likely SHRA,
Chance TSRA.
Wednesday Night: Mainly VFR, with local IFR possible. Chance
