How about if the ATC buys it from the present owner at a fair price. That
way they could "put their money where their mouth is" as the old saying
goes, and the owner would no longer be stuck with a financially
hemorrhaging operation over which he has limited control. The AT could
preserve the ridge, or perhaps more realistically, could assume sole credit
or sole blame for what happens to the ridge. They would then have a
backcountry ski area for AT members and others. I'll bet that volunteer
effort to keep the trails from brushing over could be found.

I am only half kidding. The ski market is shrinking anyway. The
magaresorts are barely holding their heads above water. Does it make sense
to build another megaresort in this business climate?
