Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
335 AM EDT Thu May 25 2023
.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will continue to build into the North Country
today and prevail into the upcoming holiday weekend. This will
result in dry conditions with warming temperatures by the
weekend. Highs will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s today, but
well into the 70s and lower 80s with comfortable overnight lows
for Saturday and Sunday. An extended period of dry weather is
anticipated with much above normal temperatures for next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 314 AM EDT Thursday...Water vapor shows closed mid/upper
lvl cyclonic circulation over northern Maine this morning with
deep dry layer overhead. This should quickly dissipate any
lingering low stratus and mid lvl clouds by mid morning, but
given recent rainfall and some bl heating, expecting some
trrn driven fair wx cumulus clouds to develop. Highs wl top out
in the upper 50s to mid 60s with northwest winds of 5 to 15 mph
with localized gusts 15 to 20 mph thru mid aftn.
Frost advisory has been issued for most of the cwa, except the
CPV, for lows upper 20s to mid 30s with patchy frost formation
possible. Best potential for frost looks to be portions of the
SLV/northern Dacks and parts of central/southern VT. Have noted
some 850 to 500mb moisture rotates back into NEK per NAM/GFS
toward 06z tonight, which could result in some mid lvl clouds
and slightly warmer temps. Also, advisory may need to be
expanded for Addison, Clinton and Franklin counties, if cooler
temps are realized as sfc high pres builds into the fa.
Friday looks like a classic North Country Chamber of Commerce
day for late May with plenty of sunshine and temps warming into
the mid 60s to lower 70s. Winds generally from the northwest at
5 to 10 mph.
&&
.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 334 AM EDT Thursday...Building high pressure remains the story
for the end of the work week, allowing for clear skies and light
winds. Overnight temperatures Friday night will be warmer in
comparison to the last couple of nights, but still 5 to 10 degrees
cooler than seasonable normals. Most places will remain in the mid
to low 40s, with the higher terrain, particularly the Adirondacks,
dipping into the upper 30s. Saturday will make for a beautiful start
to the holiday weekend, with high temperatures in the 70s across
most of the region. Sunny and dry weather will prevail throughout
the day as well, making it quite enjoyable.
&&
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 334 AM EDT Thursday...As high pressure stays rooted overhead,
dry and warm weather can be expected for the rest of Memorial Day
weekend through much of next week. Temperatures will continue to
warm up throughout the week, with highs Sunday in the upper 70s to
low 80s. By mid-week, valley locations will soar into the upper 80s,
almost near 90. Overnight low temperatures will also follow this
warming trend More of the same sunny and dry weather can be expected
for most of next week, with no appreciable precipitation expected
for the forecast period. Some model guidance, particularly the GFS,
is showing the potential for some pop-up showers during the
afternoon on Wednesday, however there is very little confidence in
any actual precipitation given the lack of both forcing and
moisture, as well as the abundance of dry air to overcome. Other
model guidance is more supportive of a drier solution, meaning that
the dry weather will continue to persist.
&&
.AVIATION /08Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Through 06Z Friday...Mostly VFR conditions crntly at our taf
sites, except IFR cigs at RUT. As secondary front pushes acrs
our region this morning, expect better mixing to occur, which wl
limit fog/br potential. Have a mostly VFR cigs/vis fcst with
just a tempo for a few hours of IFR at RUT, as latest ir satl
shows area of low clouds decreasing. Still cannot completely
rule out some very shallow ground fog near sunrise at MPV/SLK,
but given winds just off the deck, feel prob is too low to
mention attm. Otherwise northwest winds 4 to 8 knots become 5 to
10 knots with gusts 15 to 18 knots on Thurs morning, with VFR
developing at all sites.
Outlook...
Friday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Friday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Saturday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Saturday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Sunday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Sunday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Memorial Day: VFR. NO SIG WX.
