Changed my mind about going to telefest today. Needed to hike my lingering
cold out.
Buddy Scott and I skinned up the "drop" today-but only after an hour long
gomer session trying to find a spot to park. Cars stuck, people scratching
their heads trying to figure out where to leave their cars, a lucky few in
the real spots.
Winter parking lot has space for about 10 cars. About 30 showed up. Luckily I
brought a shovel for this kind of senario. We dug a spot out of a huge
snowbank in the main lot in about 20 minutes. However, this was after backing
down the road all the way to a drive way, turning around so the truck was
facing downhill, and then backing up a mile or so to the lot! Scott's truck
looked cool backed int a bank, with snow up to the roof on the bank side.
Only about 3 inches of clearance between his truck and the snowbank.
Now that everyone's read Goodmans BC VT book, they all are coming out to ski
the trails they have read about. Including about twenty-five montrealers on
snow shoes today. Each one in their own car....
Anywho, my new "wall to wall" G3 skins work great. It was the easiest hike up
I have had.
The measuring log that we gauge snow depth is up on the trail at around 3200
ft---it is totally buried. I have no idea where it is now.
Came down the "Hughdrop". Untracked powder!! Had to bushwack a bit, as the
snowpack is almost too high in the woods. Tree branches are now in the way in
spots. My fears of heavy snow were dispelled. Six inches of fresh on the
consolidated big dump from Tuesday. Hero snow, no doubt...
Maybe back up to earn em again tomorrow in the pm....
