One of the benefits of cIMT data is that it has predictive value BEFORE disease occurs as compared to an ABI which only predicts events AFTER disease (PVD) has occurred. The risk factors which lead to a thickening of the cIMT can be modified with a concomitant reduction in cIMT. I agree with Terry's comment. Some patients are hard to get through to and making this claim may be enough to turn some people around in terms of compliance.

Is anyone aware of research related to determining a patient's "vascular age" based on an IMT measurement?  I had someone ask me recently if I knew of an Ultrasound system that can automatically calculate this and I have never even heard of using this to determine a vascular age.
