Having worked in various work enviroments, first I'd have to say merging the
two depends on the Radiologists and the Vascular Surgeons.
I work now in a Vascular Lab that is under a Neuro dept.  The Carotids are
read by the neuro docs and the arterials, ect. are read by the vascular docs.
 This presents it's own difficulties.
I did work with some really good Radiologists and interventional
Radiologists.  I also work per Diem in a Vascular lab in RAdiology.  As a
tech, I really miss the "Team" feeling you have working with GOOD
interventional Radiologists. The Vascular Surgeons are to busy, and some give
you the feel that you are "only a Tech". Even the Cardiologist I worked for
in the past liked to tie your vascular studies with the echo exams.  This
could be educational.
The Vascular Surgeons have a good working relationship with the Rads--this
makes things even better.
I guess summed up, on the tech side, whatever dept. you're in, it is good to
have reading Physicians that consider you part of the team.  This allows for
growth of the tech, dept. and ultimately--better patient care.
