Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

The UVM Hillel community invites each of you to several events that will
be taking place this week in honor of _*Holocaust Remembrance Week*_.
More than a half-century ago, during the genocide of World War II, two
thirds of Jews in Europe were exterminated. Yom haShoah, the Holocaust
Day of Remembrance and UVM Holocaust Remembrance Week activities will
focus on raising awareness about this subject. Please feel free to
attend any or all of these events. Please share the information with
others who may have an interest in this commemoration. The week's events
include:

* *

*Remembrance Service, May 5^th , 7 pm, CC Theater, Billings Student
Center featuring Lani Silver, Holocaust Oral Historian*

Several speakers will be sharing the impact that the Holocaust has had
on them. This program features Lani Silver, a preeminent Holocaust Oral
Historian who will discuss "The Holocaust and Social Injustice Today".

* *

*Field of Flags, May 3-7, UVM Green*

A visually moving memorial of 2400 flags, each representing 5000 people
killed in the Holocaust. The flags are in seven different colors
corresponding to the color of the patch prisoners were forced to wear in
the concentration camps.

*Litany of Martyrs, May 4, 5 & 6, **9 am-5 pm**, at the Catamount statue
between the Bookstore and **Royal** **Tyler** **Theatre** *

The litany is a reading of names of people who were killed in the
Holocaust. These names will be read continuously to stress the severity
of the Nazi atrocities perpetrated on the Jewish and other communities.
Anyone can sign up for 5 minute increments and read names of the people
who perished. Call Susan Leff at 656-1145 to sign up.

*Remembrance Dinner, May 6^th , **7:00 pm**, Allen House *

An "all you can eat" BBQ fund raiser for The Vermont Refugee
Resettlement Project.**

This will be followed by a Candlelight Service at the Field of Flags. $2
suggested donation for dinner.

These events are co-sponsored by: UVM Hillel, UVM Women's Center, ALANA,
Holocaust Studies, and The Center for Cultural Pluralism, Student Life,
LBGQTA,
Student Government Association, Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, a Hillel Darmstaedter
Holocaust Education Program Grant, a SGA Cultural Diversity Fund Grant, The
Dean of Students Office, Kelliher Samets Volk, Temple Sinai and several
local supporters.

We hope to see you throughout the week.

Sincerely,

The UVM Hillel Community
