Celebrate The Life Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
A SERIES OF ACTIVITIES HONORING MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. begins with
a birthday party Tuesday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Davis
Center atrium. Learn more about this year's celebration[8], which
includes a talk by Cornel West, professor of religion and African
American studies at Princeton University.
Save The Date
/NEW YORK TIMES/ COLUMNIST GAIL COLLINS will give a lecture titled
"When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from
1960 to the Present" at UVM's Ira Allen Chapel on Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Information: 656-3186.
Financial Awards For Students Who Make The Grade And Work For Social Justice
UNITED ACADEMICS, THE FACULTY UNION AT UVM, IS ACCEPTING
APPLICATIONS FOR TWO FINANCIAL AWARDS TO HONOR STUDENTS who exemplify
academic excellence and commitment to social justice. The Jeffrey
Brace Book Award will provide $500 awards for books and supplies to
students who will be enrolled at UVM full-time in fall '11. The Linda
Backus Memorial Award of $1,000 will be presented to an undergraduate
student who has completed at least two years and has an immediate
family member who is a union member in Vermont. Deadline for both
applications is March 1. Application details are available on the

TWELVE-WEEK ONLINE OFFERINGS STARTING IN JANUARY 2011! UVM
employees receive a 15 percent discount on the 12-week classes. Go to

Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, music, and dance

neighborhoods. The summit is an opportunity to meet one another and
share a meal and explore what we can do as individuals and partners to

"AMERICAN MASTERS." Prepare for a series of community
lecture/discussions on Louisa May Alcott in February and March, led by
UVM English professor Mary Lou Kete, by watching an "American Masters"
documentary on Alcott on Vermont Public Television. The documentary
and lectures, which will take place at the Brownell Library in Essex
Junction (details to come), are part of a national program funded by
the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the

FLYNN/UVM DIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP PERFORMANCE: CHARLES LLOYD QUARTET
WITH JASON MORAN, PIANO, REUBEN ROGERS, BASS, ERIC HARLAND, DRUMS.
Lloyd's career has produced compositions punctuating the post-bop
period, embracing the traditional music of a host of world cultures,
and ciphering the psychedelic '60s with avant-garde improv. UVM

RESEARCH STUDIES:
UVM Research Study For Women Age 50-60 With Memory Concerns
ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR MEMORY? Do you think your memory might
be worse than some of your friends? If so, you may be eligible to
participate in a research study about memory being conducted at the
Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit at UVM and Fletcher Allen Health
Care. You must be post-menopausal (no period for 1 year plus), no
history of breast cancer, and no hormone use during the past year.
This 5-6 month research study includes 8 visits and you will be paid
