----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the start of the fall semester, the scope of construction and
renovation projects will change dramatically. This message provides an
overview of projects and how they will impact vehicle and pedestrian
traffic on campus. For a map with new traffic patterns, more detailed
information on projects, and updates throughout the semester, go to
http://www.uvm.edu/~arch/?Page=construction.html
Dudley H. Davis Center and Marsh Life Science Addition
Site and construction work for these projects will impact the area bounded
by Main Street on the south, the Ag/Engineering parking lot to the east,
Bailey/Howe Library to the north, and Carrigan Hall on the west.
IMPACT: Pedestrian traffic will be routed around the construction areas
through August 2007. The Terrill parking lot and the pedestrian underpass
(under Main Street) will be closed.
Gutterson Garage (opening August 24, 2005)
The new parking garage located east of the Athletic Complex will open
August 24 adding 550 net new parking spaces to this area of campus.
IMPACT: Exiting to Spear Street will be limited to the Marsh/Austin/Tupper
and Harris/Millis lots and Level 1 of the Garage. All other traffic will
be required to exit to Main Street on the new University Heights Road.
Look for signage and traffic control personnel to direct you.
University Heights North and South Residence Halls
Construction of the new University Heights Residence Halls continues. All
students, who will be housed at Wing/Wilks halls for the fall semester,
will move into the new North Residence Hall Complex in January 2006 for
the spring semester. The South Complex is scheduled to be completed by
August 2006.
IMPACT: As underground utility work is completed, the construction fence
line for the University Heights project will be established in late August
and a new walkway located west of Harris/Millis will be opened. Handicap
parking for the Harris/Millis complex will be available on the west
entrance of the complex and on the north side of the Athletic Campus.
New University Heights Road:
A new road connecting Main Street to the existing shuttle road that runs
between the PFG Circle and Redstone will open to all traffic on August 24.
Construction to add a sidewalk on this road will continue during the fall
semester. The Redstone Apartments parking lot will be separated from WDW
lot with barricades.
IMPACT: Exiting the residential area at Redstone Campus will be moved to
Main Street as the road to South Prospect Street becomes one way (in)
effective August 24.
Wing-Davis-Wilks Renovation
The Wing-Davis-Wilks Residence Hall Complex will complete the renovation
of Davis Hall this August. Staging for construction will remain
established on the south side of WDW throughout the fall semester to
prepare for the renovations to Wing and Wilks Halls beginning in January
2006.
IMPACT: Construction trailers will remain on the WDW site. Wing and Wilks
halls will close in January 2006.
