UVM Celebrates The Legacy Of Martin Luther King, Jr.

   A number of events have been organized in celebration of Martin  
Luther King, Jr. this week, including a speech by Harry Belafonte on  
Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. in Ira Allen Chapel. Read more about  
Belafonte's speech and the many scheduled events in commemoration of  
Dr. King.[2]

Focus The Nation

   Focus the Nation, on January 31, 2008, promises to be the largest  
"teach-in" in U.S. history.  So far, it has mobilized students at more  
than 1,300 colleges in 50 states to plan classes and workshops  
exploring solutions to global warming.

   Students at the University of Vermont, with support from many  
faculty and staff, have developed one of the country's most ambitious  
agendas for the event. From Jan. 27 until Feb. 1, classes, a film  
festival, a city-wide green design workshop, art displays, an  
interactive webcast, concerts and trainings are planned to bring  
attention to the latest scientific findings and new ideas for action  
on how to slow climate change.

Campus Recreation 2008

   Get to work on your new year's resolutions with the help of the  
many recreation options on campus, from the fitness program[4] to  
intramurals[5].

   See the facility's hours of operation[6], and read more about youth  
and family programs like Adventure Day Camp[7] (registration begins  
Feb. 1), swim lessons[8], and birthday bashes[9].

   Registration for all campus recreation programs is available  
online[10]. Remember, the new UVM CatCard ID is required to access the  
facility and participate in programs.

   "Neither Aryan nor Semite: Mutability and Identity in the Third  
Reich," with Richard Steigmann-Gall, associate professor of history  
and director of the Jewish Studies Program at Kent State University.

   Concert: Jazz Artist Ray Vega, Trumpet. Vega will perform with UVM  
jazz faculty Alex Stewart, saxophone; Tom Cleary, piano; John Rivers,

Older Women " with Julie Dumas, research assistant professor of

   "Living in Two Worlds: A Photo Documentary of the Pine Ridge Indian  
Reservation," by Jerry Swope, assistant professor of journalism at

   A Festive Night Out: Children Singing to Help Feed Hungry Children,  
a silent auction and benefit cabaret for the Campaign to End Childhood
