Vermont Student-Athletes Continue Impressive Academic Performance;
Five-year Cumulative Grade-Point Average is 3.015 in America East Sports

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Student-athletes at the University of Vermont continued their
impressive work in the classroom in 2003-04, with nearly 200 Catamounts being
named to conference academic honor rolls and seven teams posting the top GPA in
America East.

In addition, Vermont can boast of two America East Scholar-Athletes: Kristal
Kostiew (Northwood, N.H.) in women’s indoor track and field, and David Hehn
(Sarnia, Ontario) in men’s basketball. Kostiew was also named a Verizon
Academic All-American in 2004, giving Vermont five Verizon Academic
All-Americans in the last decade.

In the 22 sports that America East sponsors, Vermont finished with a 3.10
cumulative GPA in 2003-04. Over the last five years, the Catamounts have the
top GPA among the conference schools, recording a 3.015 GPA since 1999-2000.
Vermont student-athletes have recorded a GPA of 3.00 or above the last three
years: 3.10 in 2003-04, 3.053 in 2002-03 and 3.04 in 2001-02.

“We are extremely proud of the young men and women who wear the Catamount
uniform,” Dr. Robert Corran, director of athletics, said. “These outstanding
student-athletes represent in such a positive way the true values and ideals of
intercollegiate athletics.”
