Smith Named Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at UVM

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Justin Smith, a 2000 graduate of Colorado State University,
has been named assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of
Vermont. Paul Goodman, Vermont's strength and conditioning coordinator, made
the announcement today.

Smith, 28, has an extensive background in strength and conditioning, having
worked most recently at Miami (Ohio) University in Oxford, Ohio as an assistant
strength and conditioning coach. At Miami, he designed and implemented programs
for many programs, including soccer and field hockey.

Before going to Miami, Smith - a native of Johnstown, Colorado - was a volunteer
strength and conditioning coach at the University of Denver. He received his
master's degree in sport and exercise science from the University of Northern
Colorado in 2003. Smith also was strength and conditioning coach for the
Lakewood BlueClaws, a minor-league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, in
2002.

"I am extremely excited and pleased that we are able to gain a person of
Justin's character, knowledge and work ethic to aid in the development of our
student-athletes,” Goodman said. “Justin's experience as a strength and
conditioning coach allows the department to evolve as we continue to provide
support for all of the varsity student-athletes here at Vermont."

At UVM, Smith will assist Goodman with hands-on training, testing evaluation and
protocol and program design and implementation.
