Womenıs Hockey Travels to Take on Boston College Tuesday
Vermont Womenıs Hockey Notes
December 2, 2004
No Wasted Shots: Freshman Stephanie Tewksbury is off to a great first season
on campus for the Catamounts as she is currently tied for second in goals on
the team with two and is tied for third in points with five. What makes her
three goals on the season even more impressive is that she has scored them
on only 10 shots, for a 30 percent success rate. The next highest
goal-to-shot percentage on the team is Jenny Hoganıs 10.7 percent scoring
rate (three goals on 28 shots).
Scoring Ladder: Junior Hilary Johnson leads the Catamounts in scoring this
season with five goals and six assists for 11 points, after also leading
Vermont last season in the scoring column. The Arlington Heights, Ill.
native registered at least one point in all but two games this season that
the Catamounts have scored. After netting 19 points last season on 11 goals
and eight assists, Johnson is now tied for fourth all-time at Vermont in
goals scored with 19 for her career, seventh in career points with 37 and
tied for eighth in career assists with 18 with Catamount assistant coach
Rachel Howes.
Last Time Out: Colgate picked up its first ECACHL women's hockey win of the
season with a 3-0 victory over Vermont on November 20 at Starr Rink in
Hamilton, N.Y. The Raiders broke open a 1-0 game with two third period
tallies to pull out the victory and improve to 5-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in
conference action, while Vermont fell to 2-12-1 with the loss and 0-6-0 in
ECACHL play.
In the Crease: After playing six games in the month of November, all ECACHL
contests, the Catamounts next five will be against non-conference foes,
starting with Boston College ... Four of Vermontıs six goals scored in the
month of November came in the third period ... Vermont does not play again
following the Boston College game, until January 2nd when the Catamounts are
on the road at Minnesota State-Mankato for a pair of contests ... You can
keep track of the all Catamount home games on the UVM Athletic web site via
Gametracker. The ECAC Hockey League has teamed up with College Sports Online
(CSO) to present in-game stats of all ECACHL contests. Just go to the

This Week's Opponent:
Boston College (Tue., Dec. 7, 7:00pm): The Eagles are 3-8-1 on the season
with a weekend series against Providence before they take on Vermont on
December 7th. One of Boston Collegeıs three wins this season came at the
expense of Vermont, 3-1, on October 30th in Burlington, Vt. The Eagles top
three scorers are all freshmen, led by Deborah Spillane, who has 14 points
on the season (six goals, eight assists). Classmate Sarah Feldman leads the
team in goals with seven and is tied for second on the team in points with
Colleen Harris, as both have registered 13 points this year. The Eagles have
used a goalie-by-committee approach this season, as three different
netminders have seen significant action, with each posting a victory. BC is
coming off a 7-4 non-conference win over Quinnipiac University on Nov. 21.
Last Meeting (Oct. 30, 2004) Boston College 3, Vermont 1: Boston College
defeated Vermont 3-1 on October 30th at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington,
Vt. The Eagles used two second period power play goals to pick up their
first victory of the season and improved to 1-5-0 with the victory. Deborah
Spillane opened the scoring 2:38 into the second period, as she slid a Sarah
Feldman pass past UVM goaltender Kami Cote, to make it 1-0 on the power play
goal. Kerri Sanders gave BC a two-goal lead at the 13:01 mark when she
scored the Eagles second power play goal of the day. The visitors made it
3-0 just 3:10 later when Michel Lombardi found Sarah Courtney in front of
the net for the goal. The Catamounts lone goal came 7:10 into the third
period when junior Hilary Johnson took a feed from Jess Benoit and wrapped
it around and in to make it 3-1. Jenny Hogan also had an assist on Johnson's
goal.
