UVMıs Gutterson Fieldhouse to Host
USA U-22 Womenıs Hockey vs. Canada Saturday
Youth Hockey Teams Can Get Group Discount on Tickets
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Gutterson Fieldhouse, the home of the University of
Vermont menıs and womenıs ice hockey teams, will host an exhibition game
between the US Womenıs Under-22 Select team and the Canadian U-22 squad on
Saturday, August 28 at 1:00pm.
Plenty of tickets remain for the game; prices are $8.00 for adults, $5.00
for children 17-and-under. Youth teams can get a special group discount by
contacting the UVM Athletic Ticket Office at 802-656-4410 or 1-866-4CAT-TIX.
The United States and Canada are participating in a three-game series from
August 25-28. The first two games of the series will be held on August 25
and 26 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. The final game will be held on
August 28 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
In 2003, the three-game series was held in Kitchner, Ontario with the US
winning the best-of-three series, 2-0-1, and defeated Canada for the fist
time in the history of the event.
The last time the US and Canada met at Gutterson Fieldhouse was on December
17, 1997 in the first-ever nationally televised womenıs hockey game. The
cable network Lifetime broadcast the game live from Gutterson.
Ben Smith, two-time head coach of the US Olympic Womenıs Ice Hockey Team, is
the head coach of the 2004 Womenıs Select Team. Smith led the United States
to the inaugural womenıs ice hockey gold medal in the 1998 Olympic Winter
Games at Nagano, Japan, and an Olympic silver medal in 2002 in Salt Lake
City, Utah.
Smith is assisted by two-time Olympian Shelley Looney, who was recently
named as an assistant coach for the University of Vermont womenıs hockey
team.
Former Vermont menıs hockey head coach Mike Gilligan has served as an
assistant to Smith on the 2004 US Womenıs National Team. Gilligan most
recently accompanied the team to the 2004 World Womenıs Hockey Championships
in Nova Scotia, Canada.
