National Biodiesel Day Celebrated with Birthday Party in Montpelier

WHAT: National Biodiesel Day will be celebrated with a birthday party for
Rudolf Diesel (March 18, 1858), inventor of the diesel engine
WHO: Legislators who have co-sponsored Vermont biodiesel legislation, as
well as state officials and local biodiesel industry leaders have been
invited to help cut the birthday cake. Greg Pahl, Vermont Biofuels
Association co-director, and author of the new book, Biodiesel: Growing a
New Energy Economy, will also be on hand to answer questions about the
current state of the industry nationwide and around the world.
WHERE: Statehouse cafeteria
WHEN: 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

NOTES: National Biodiesel Day takes on special significance this year as
climbing petroleum prices and tight supplies draw attention to the need for
American-made fuels. Biodiesel is a cleaner burning fuel produced from
renewable resources such as vegetable oils and animal fats. Its use
increases energy security and extends dwindling petroleum reserves.
**A bipartisan cake cutting (and eating) ceremony is planned at 11:00
