If you really wanted to promulgate solar options, you'd make these workshops free. Those of us who are most interested in lower impact options are the ones least able to pay such fees.

Solar Hot Water – Workshops – 2010 SeriesWhat: Building for Social Responsibility (BSR) is proud to present the 2010 workshop series on domestic solar hot water and space heating. From March 20th, 2010 through October 16th, 2010 workshops are available across the state. These courses are recognized by Renewable Energy of Vermont (REV) as credits towards applying for Solar Thermal Partnership.  Learn how to design, install and maintain solar thermal domestic hot water and space heating systems for Vermont climate!




When/Where:  All workshops run 8am -5pm and include lunch.

SHW Day 1 --      March 20th          Burlington, VT @Vermont Energy Investment Corp

SHW Day 2 --    April 3rd            Montpelier, VT @ City Hall

SHW Day 1 --    May 15th           Brattleboro, VT @ BuildingGreen, LLC

SHW Day 2 --    June 24th        White River Junction, VT Vermont @ groSolar

SHW Day 1 --    July 7th            Montpelier, VT @ City Hall

SHW Day 2 --    August 5th          Burlington, VT @ Vermont Energy Investment Corp

SHW Day 1 --    September 18th      Manchester, VT @ r.k. Miles

SHW Day 2 --    October 21th           Middlebury, VT @ tbd

Who: These workshops are intended for:

   -  Builders who want to encourage their clients to include solar hot water in their building and remodeling projects;

   -  Plumbing and heating contractors who want to learn the specifics of solar installations for domestic hot water and heating systems;

   -  Anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of a sophisticated renewable technology.

Cost: $285 One Day, $450 Two Days, $45 Discount to BSR Members. $40 Early Registration Discount (2 weeks prior to workshop date)  Contact BSR for information on plumber discounts.  



Details: This course is recognized by REV. Licensed plumbers who attend a 8hr workshop will be eligible to apply for "REV Solar Thermal Provisional partnership". Full Solar Partnership is awarded to Provisional Partners who complete a dw systems with REV oversight. Non-licensed plumbing professionals attending both workshops will receive 16 hours of credit towards eligibility. Solar Thermal Partnership is required to access Vermont renewable energy incentives.

Installation & Maintenance for DSHW

Economic Payback Overview & Marketing Strategies for Solar Hot Water

Overview of Federal & State Incentives and the Renewable Energy Vermont Solar Partnership Application



Day 2

Solar Space Heating Design Details Including Passive Solar and Active Solar Sources.

Advanced System Components for DSHW and Solar Space Heating Systems.

Troubleshooting for all Solar Systems and Common Components Maintenance Concerns.

Introduction to Solar Mathematics for siting and sizing systems.

Solar Hot Water Marketing and Economic Paybacks Plus Incentives.

Lunch will be provided for all attendees during which networking will be encouraged and access to our sponsors resources will be available.
