Hi~
The Dunlin was not there this morning. The water levels in the treatment
ponds are up, meaning there is very little area for shore birds. There were
the usual suspects of Spotted Sandpipers, snipe and Killdeer.
Speaking of Killdeer.....IF you drive down Lagoon Road, please be very
mindful of what/who is IN the road. And do not drive/park/ turn around on
the grass! Today I chatted with Kahan, who works for the town, and he told
me there is a nest in the grass beyond the solar panels. He carefully
avoided the nest while mowing (another Steward for Plovers). If you need
to turn around, keep to the obvious trodden areas already used.
Also, do not go into the the fenced facility! It is a restricted area.
You can view the pools by climbing to the fence edge and walking along it.
I have only gone into the fenced area when given permission by a facility
employee, and if no one is there working I can ask, I do not go in. A few
months ago, there was a break in there and the police now patrol it.
Thanks!
Ali

Subject: [VTBIRD] Dunlin still present in the 'burg
Today I took a slight detour on the way home today to see if the Dunlin was
still present in hinesburg. It took a few minutes to see it, but it was
there! Beautiful bird in breeding plumage as reported by Ali (thanks for the
report, life bird dance!!!). It was accompanied by a small flock (8 or so)
of Least sandpipers (I'm no shorebird expert, but the small size and thin,
small, slightly drooping bill clued me in) and a single spotted sandpiper.
All birds were actively foraging in the muddy pool margins.
Cool spot!
