Two Common Nighthawks seen coursing up and down the Otter Creek from Otter View Park in Middlebury this evening. Also many other swallows and Swifts, including the unusual sighting of a Bank Swallow, taking advantage of a significant insect hatch. Two Virginia Rails were making noise as well, one of which climbed up on some reeds and then flew across the boardwalk in front of me, a trip of some 20 feet, the longest distance I have ever seen a Rail travel in the air.
