A Great Egret spent much of today on the shoreline of Morrisville's
Lake Lamoille.
I saw it fly in from the north at about 11 AM. Its initial landing site
was out of view, and I moved to a different vantage point. Not
relocating it, I went back to the north end of this hydroelectric
reservoir a half hour later.
The egret was now standing on shoreline mud. Suddenly an Osprey came
from nowhere and flew very low over the egret and made a sharp U-turn
back over the egret and disappeared. It looked very much like the
Osprey "buzzed" the egret. The egret's response was to fly up onto a
dead tree overhanging the shore, where it began to preen.
Errands called and I departed about noon. I drove past about 2:30 or so
and the egret was present on the muddy shore.
