I saw one Sandhill Crane (also in flight and calling) at Bristol Pond back on 7/22. - Last summer's sighting was my favorite, though. Three of us in kayaks drifted around one of the bends in the marshy area leading to the pond and the whole family of four cranes was right in front of us, just a few yards away. One of the adults was very much on guard, stretched to his or her greatest height and eying us. The other adult and the two colts were nonchalantly preening. We sat quiet in our boats and watched for several minutes. Spectacular!
