This afternoon I took my dog on a walk along the West River trail. There was no trace of the
owl. However getting close to the I91 overpass I met a couple from out of town who too were
looking for the owl after they had seen it when driving east on Rte 30. It had been flying east
along the river, more on the trail-side, and so decided to search for it. We exchanged phone
numbers. They drove back to Rte 30 while I continued on the trail. They called me to say, no
owl. I asked a runner on the trail about the owl. He told me, no, but he had seen a big white
owl in the Retreat woods in October ( this does not sound typical for a Snowy Owl). Just to
be sure I drove over to Rte 30 to check the field behind the water treatment plant - no owl.
Anyway it pays to keep the eyes open.
