Went to Moose Bog with my parents this afternoon to show them a part
of the state they have never seen before (and do some birding at the
same time). While the sound of gun shots and lack of bird calls
seemed disappointing, the day was saved by one very tame male Spruce
Grouse. The bird crossed our path a few feet in front of us very
slowly, stopped just on the other side of the path for a while, headed
a little deeper into the forest (though not much), and just stayed
there giving us long, great looks and plenty of photo opportunities.
In all, we only saw 4 species:
4 Common Mergansers (flushed from the bog)
1 Spruce Grouse
4 Gray Jays
a few Blue Jays
