While driving north on Rt. 30 in Whiting, I spotted a tight ball of
starlings - probably 150 birds - in a 40' diameter spherical formation.
About 10 yards above the flock was a merlin, looking for lunch. I've seen
this before - it always reminds of diving in the Caribbean with a school of
yellow jack and a circling barracuda.
        Always neat to see.
