New Years week I had heard crow mobbing activity in the forest behind my house. On Sat, Jan 5 the object of their attention revealed itself... a GREAT HORNED OWL. During the VT Breeding Bird Atlas the past 5 yrs, the GHOW was noticibly absent in southern VT. Although historically I have confirmed nesting GHOW in my neighborhood, I have not documented any in recent years. I would hope this was a resident bird, but perhaps a 'migrant' from northern VT/Canada???
On Wed I relocated 2 wooly bears crossing a road. My friendly, observant UPS man reported seeing a FROG crossing the road. Tell me there is no such thing as climate change!!
Noticibly little activity at my feeders except the opportunistic squirrels (3-4), and rabbit.
