There is also the book, "Bird Watching in VT" by Ted Murin and Bryan Pfeiffer. Excuse the plug.

  Hilary,
A great way to plan out a trip and find places is to use Vermont eBird. You
can plug in the birds you are after and get a map of all the sightings.
For example, here is a map of Spruce Grouse sightings in Vermont with recent
  sightings in yellow.

  Good luck,

I've lived in Danville thirteen years, and haven't had a lot of time
for birdwatching. Would really like to see some of the particularly
  Northern birds:

  Boreal chickadee
  the Crossbills
  Hoary Redpoll
  Pine Grosbeak
  Gray Jay
  the Three-toed Woodpeckers
  Spruce Grouse

Is there anywhere in the NEK where one has a reasonable chance of
seeing some of these? and what would be the best time of year? time of
  day?

  Thanks a lot,
  Hilary McClure
