Midday yesterday (3/21, 11 am-1:20 pm) I checked out the flood control
project from the Perkinsville side via Maple Street. One can drive a short
distance beyond the first gate to the parking area at the second gate which
remains closed. Most of the project is inundated with snow melt providing
much habitat for waterfowl. In order to get within relative close range of
the eagle nest now occupied by an apparent incubating Great Horned Owl, I
had to hike the high ground through the woods and drop back down to a dry
stretch of road just before the "boat" access ramp (under water). 18
species sighted:

Canada Goose 4
Wood Duck 13
American Black Duck 22
Mallard 53
Green-winged Teal 1
Hooded Merganser 2
Ruffed Grouse 1
Great Horned Owl 1
Pileated Woodpecker 2
Blue Jay 4
American Crow 4
Black-capped Chickadee 2
White-breasted Nuthatch 1
Brown Creeper 2
Song Sparrow 6
Dark-eyed Junco 6
Common Grackle 3
AmericanGoldfinch 1
