While conducting a bird survey at Aitken State
Forest in Mendon today, Rutland County Audubon
observed the following:

Broad-winged Hawk 1
Mourning Dove 2
Barred Owl 2 (pair)
Ruffed Grouse 2
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 9 (one excavating)
Downy Woodpecker 1
Hairy Woodpecker 2
Least Flycatcher 7
Blue-headed Vireo 8 (including pair)
Blue Jay 17
Common Raven 2
American Crow 1
Black-capped Chickadee 11 (one gathering nesting
material)
Brown Creeper 1
Winter Wren 7
Ruby-crowned Kinglest 4
Hermit Thrush 3
American Robin 7 (one on nest)
Black-throated Blue Warbler 4
Yellow-rumped Warbler 7
Black-throated Green Warbler 5
Blackburnian Warbler 6
Pine Warbler 1
Ovenbird 2
Dark-eyed Junco 5 (one carrying nesting material)
Brown-headed Cowbird 1
Purple Finch 8
American goldfinch 1
