Whoops...sorry...we all make this mistake. This is the only listserv that I participate in where the RESPOND address is the listserv itself, not the sender of the message. Sorry if any of this rubs anyone the wrong way; it was intended as a personal note to Tom.
Cheers, Vermont Birders,

Tom,
Great news. I knew your big day was coming. 7 bitterns is good!
As you might assume, given my lack of contact, we aren't able to make it to VT again, much to my chagrin. As hard as this might be to believe, the Small Business Tax Cut was not sizable at all, so we paid taxes instead of planning a trip. That is okay, as the car is requiring a bit of repair. I did do a Big Day last Saturday and ended with 137 species, missing a lot of easy things, getting a life Eared Grebe and sleeping almost not at all.
So I live vicariously through the VT LISTSERV and hope to get there and meet some of the birders I read about. Not the first time I've said that, either. Been having my best year of birding ever around Pittsburgh and PA in general, but I need to get away for a little while. Hopefully everybody is still around when we make it for a visit 🙂.
Take care,
Ryan

Good birding (although rain most of the morning hours) along the River Road
in Orleans and up through South Bay WMA and Eagle Point today. As of 2:30
pm. 102 species were recorded. Among some of the 'finds' on NEK Audubon's
Quest for birds were:
7 American Bitterns
3 Virginia Rails
25 greater Yellowlegs (1 we identified as Lesser)
14 Solitary Sandpipers
2 Blue winged teal
2 Gadwall
A Great Egret !!
3 Bald Eagles
4 Lesser Scaup
1 Pied billed Grebe
18 Warbler species including Wilsons
And over to Moose Bog
3 Black-backed Woodpeckers
1 Spruce Grouse
Where are the flycatchers?
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do
nothing.
