An initial count of Common Goldeneye that were actively feeding was 75.
Then a Bald Eagle flew overhead and the gathering took flight settling once
again in good view. Before the Common Goldeneye were sufficiently relaxed
to commence diving again, I made a second count, this time 145. There is
obviously a factor of 2 in this single observation but it does suggest the
number recorded when a raft of diving ducks is actively feeding is probably
going to be on the low to very low end of the actual number present.
