I too was walking on that trail on Sunday and encountered one of the ravens, as well. It was croaking in agitation at me, I thought, and I guessed it likely had a nest, as well.

I was walking at the base of a rock face when a large black bird began croaking from above me; it continued, following me from tree to tree, for about 100 feet. After about a half a mile, I found that trail a bit too much for me and decided to turn back to the main trail; this time two birds croaked at me through the same area. Based on the size and calls I think they were ravens, and the behavior surely seemed like there was probably a nest nearby.
