FHGS has purchased new servers for file sharing
and office administration, including Master Trak
and Health Master. I am concerned about Internet
security. What programs are out there for firewall
Well, the best starting point for security is
to NOT put those servers on the interenet in the
first place. This will be more secure in the first
place AND easier to administer in the long run.
- administrative servers
- internal servers
just configure them so that there are no internet
- no telnet
- no ftp
- no web
You didn't mention what OS your servers were running,
but if it's Novell or MacOS, isolating the server from
the internet is pretty easy. It's a bit trickier for
NT, and quite tricky for Linux.
A firewall and removing interenet services will only
protect you from "outside" attacks. The sad truth about
network security is that most "attacks" are inside
jobs ... starting with people who share passwords
over the telephone !!
