Dear Colleagues,

I need information from the medical literature on burping babies, preferably guidelines or the
like, and have tried MEDLINE, CINAHL and about 10 pediatric textbooks - and have used the term
eructation. There is quite a bit of information in the popular literature about how, why and when
to burp babies, but nothing I can locate in the medical or nursing literature. It may be that it
is so standard to burp babies during feeding that no one writes about it. I burbed my babies
because my mother told me it was best for them and she learned it from her mother, and so on.
Does any know if the practice of burping babies is universal?

Thank you,

Rochelle Perrine Schmalz
