ERASE Initiative Program Associate


Position Summary

</fontfamily></bold><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>The ERASE (Expose
Racism and Advance School Excellence) Initiative is a national program
that advances racial justice by documenting, exposing and challenging
institutional racism in elementary and secondary public schools. The
ERASE Program Associate works with the ERASE Program Director and other
ERASE staff to implement program goals using a multi-faceted approach
combining research, media advocacy, organizing, trainings, and policy
development. ERASE fosters strategic and collaborative work among
parents, students, teachers, education activists, organizers,
academics, researchers, and policy-makers.


<bold>Specific Responsibilities

</bold>Conduct research and writing to develop program materials and
publications


Communicate with, and disseminate materials to, people about race
issues in public education


Publicly speak to the media and to organizations


Periodically travel around the U.S to meet people and make
presentations at conferences


Provide technical assistance (in organizing, media, research) to
community-based organizations


Organize individuals and organizations around the country to expose and
challenge racism in schools


Organize periodic meetings and trainings of education activists


Participate in ERASE program planning, fundraising, and evaluation.


Participate in program planning and evaluation with ARC as a whole,
including attendance at board/staff retreats and educational seminars


<bold>Qualifications</bold> / <bold>Experience:</bold> Experience in
research, community organizing or national issue campaigns. Familiarity
with media advocacy. Knowledge of progressive politics, issue
campaigns, and race-related issues. Familiarity with public education
issues. Good writing and basic research skills.  Ability to engage in
public speaking, making presentations and facilitating trainings.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good
communications skills working with diverse people/constituencies. Sense
of humor, creativity, energy and enthusiasm.  Willingness to travel
around the U.S. and be away from home at times.
